Frequently Asked Questions
What is an EDDM (Every Door Direct Mailer?
Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) is a type of direct mail advertising service offered by the United States Postal Service (USPS) that allows businesses to target specific neighborhoods and addresses by delivering advertising mailpieces to every mailbox on a specific carrier route, without the need for a mailing list or addresses. This is a cost-effective way for businesses to reach a large audience in a specific geographic area with their marketing message.
Should I do an Every Door Direct Mailer or use a mailing list?
Whether to use an EDDM or a mailing list depends on your specific needs and goals for your direct mail campaign.
If you want to reach a large audience in a specific geographic area, regardless of whether they are existing customers or not, EDDM may be a good option for you. EDDM is a cost-effective way to saturate a specific area with your marketing message.
However, if you want to target specific individuals or businesses, using a mailing list may be a better option. With a mailing list, you can target specific customers and prospects that are most likely to be interested in your products or services.
In conclusion, the choice between EDDM and a mailing list depends on your specific marketing goals, target audience, and budget. You may want to consider using both methods, with EDDM for general awareness building and a targeted mailing list for follow-up and conversion.
What should I advertise on my mailer?
When creating a direct mailer, it’s important to keep your target audience and marketing goals in mind. Here are some factors to consider when deciding what to advertise on your mailer:
- Unique selling proposition (USP): Highlight what makes your product or service unique and why your target audience should choose it over competitors.
- Call-to-Action (CTA): Encourage the recipient to take a specific action, such as visiting your website, making a purchase, or scheduling a consultation.
- Special offer: Offer a special discount, bonus, or promotion to incentivize recipients to take action.
- Relevance: Ensure that the content and messaging of your mailer is relevant to your target audience and addresses their specific needs or interests.
- Visual appeal: Use eye-catching graphics and images to grab the recipient’s attention and make your mailer memorable.
- Personalization: Personalize your mailer with the recipient’s name or other relevant information to increase engagement and relevance.
Remember that your direct mailer should be clear, concise, and easy to understand. The main objective is to motivate the recipient to take action, so keep your messaging focused and avoid overwhelming them with too much information.
What towns and routes should I sent to?
The routes and towns you choose to send your direct mailer to should be based on your target audience and marketing goals. Here are some factors to consider:
- Demographic information: Consider the demographic information of the areas you’re targeting, such as age, income, and interests. This will help you select routes and towns that are most likely to have a high concentration of your target audience.
- Competitor locations: If your target audience is likely to be in a certain area, consider targeting routes and towns near your competitors.
- Past customer data: If you have data on past customer locations, consider targeting areas where you have had success in the past.
- Delivery frequency: Consider the delivery frequency of the routes and towns you’re targeting. You may want to choose areas that receive mail delivery more frequently to increase the chances of your mailer being seen and acted upon.
- Budget: Finally, consider your budget. Selecting too many routes and towns can quickly increase your direct mail costs, so be sure to choose areas that are most likely to deliver a good return on your investment.
It’s also important to consider the local postal regulations and guidelines for EDDM.
When is the best time to send out my mailer?
The best time to send out your direct mailer depends on several factors, including your target audience and the purpose of your campaign. Here are some general guidelines to consider:
- Seasonal considerations: If your product or service is related to a specific season or holiday, plan your mailer to arrive in advance of the event. For example, if you’re selling winter coats, send your mailer in the fall.
- Industry trends: Consider the trends and peak times in your industry. For example, if you’re in the home renovation industry, consider sending your mailer in the spring, when people are likely to be planning home improvement projects.
- Timing of promotions or events: If you have a promotion or event coming up, consider timing your mailer to arrive shortly before the event. This will help build anticipation and drive attendance.
- Timing of payments: If you’re targeting businesses, consider the timing of their payments and when they are most likely to be making purchasing decisions.
- Test and adjust: Consider testing different timing options to determine what works best for your target audience. You can then adjust your timing for future campaigns based on the results of your testing.
It’s also important to consider the lead time required for printing and delivering your mailer. Plan accordingly and allow enough time for your mailer to arrive at its destination before the date you want it to be received.
